van der Ree

Kathleen van der Ree is a corporate and commercial lawyer with a practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate structuring, and residential and commercial real estate, including property development. She takes the time to understand her clients’ objectives and delivers clear, practical advice at every stage of a transaction.

Kathleen works with business owners, founders, and investors on the purchase and sale of businesses, as well as corporate structuring and tax-driven transactions. She is known for her practical, deal-oriented approach, keeping matters moving efficiently while managing risk and maintaining momentum.

She also advises on residential and commercial real estate matters, including property acquisitions, sales, and development projects of all sizes, from single-lot developments to larger, multi-stakeholder projects. She offers practical guidance throughout the process, ensuring clients understand each step while anticipating and addressing potential issues early.

Kathleen advises a broad range of clients, supporting strategic decisions as their businesses grow and evolve. She is frequently engaged on matters involving multiple stakeholders, significant assets, and time-sensitive considerations, where she brings a steady, solutions-focused approach to managing complexity, reducing risk, and keeping transactions progressing efficiently from start to finish.

Having built her practice in the Sea to Sky Corridor, Kathleen offers valuable insight into the legal and practical considerations of doing business and developing property in Squamish and surrounding communities. In addition to her legal practice, Kathleen has owned and operated small businesses both independently and in partnership with others. She understands first-hand the realities of running and growing a business from the client’s side of the table, and delivers practical, business-minded advice grounded in real-world experience.

Outside the office, Kathleen enjoys spending time with family and friends, snowboarding, and being on the waters of Howe Sound.

Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Simon Fraser University and an LLB from the University of Manitoba. Prior to articling with Coast Mountain Law (formerly Race & Company LLP) in Whistler, she worked with the Civil Litigation department at the BC Attorney General’s office in Vancouver. She has been a member of the British Columbia Bar since 2007.
